Chimney Inspection

Visual inspection of structure, flue, and crown — top to bottom.

Chimneys are one of the most common — and most expensive — surprises in a home purchase. Crown failure, liner deterioration, and flashing leaks all let weather and combustion gases into places they shouldn't be.

Our chimney inspection covers the exterior, the crown, the flashing where it meets the roof, the flue cap, and the visible firebox — documented with photos so you know exactly what you're looking at.

What we look at — in detail.

Items covered06
01

Exterior brickwork

Mortar joints, spalling brick, efflorescence, cracking, and lean — anything that signals structural movement.

02

Crown & cap

The cement cap on top of the chimney is a common failure point. We check for cracks, missing material, and rain cap condition.

03

Flashing

The metal seal where the chimney meets the roof. We look for separation, rust, missing sealant, and improper installation.

04

Flue

Visible flue tile or liner condition from the cap and from the firebox where accessible.

05

Firebox & damper

Damper operation, smoke chamber visibility, hearth extension, and creosote buildup signs.

06

Combustion air & clearances

Required combustion air supply and code-compliant clearances to combustibles.
